All About Me

I was born Maria Zenaida Tamundong Carpio on December 17, 1968. On August 17, 1996, I married Douglas Scott, and my name is now Maria Zenaida Carpio Scott. Everyone, including my parents, calls me Maida (MY - duh). We have a son, Zander Alan Carpio Scott, who was born on October 25, 2002.

I have a younger brother, Fran, and a younger sister, Berni. We all grew up in the small town of Marlton, NJ, which is about 10 miles from Philadelphia, PA.

We are first generation Filipinos. Since we were the first non-white family in our community, everyone knew who we were. This is directly responsible for my big ego. To learn more about Filipinos, take this quiz: Are You Really Filipino? or read my essay on "What It Means to be a Filipina in America." Please take time to visit New Filipina.

I graduated from Cherokee High School in 1986, went to Rutgers University for two years. In 1988, I joined the Air Force and served at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota for three long years as a flight control and instrumentation specialist working on B-1 Bombers. After that, I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, did a reserve tour at Peterson AFB working on C-130s. In May 1996, I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs College of Engineering.

In September 1997, Doug and I moved to Bad Schonborn-Mingolsheim, Germany, halfway between Frankfurt and Stuttgart, and 20 minutes from Heidelberg. We both worked at SAP.
